Rand manipulation has been in the headlines for years. The Competition Commission took a group of local and international banks to the Competition Tribunal, accusing them of colluding to manipulate the rand–dollar exchange rate. Why does that matter to you? Every time you paid for something priced in dollars, from fuel and imports to Netflix and Spotify, the rate mattered. Then there is the gold.
